Mountain Lion in Kalespel, Montana
It was not until the mountain men made their way west,
trapping and hunting for the pelt trade, that the cougar received a
more worthy name from the white man--the mountain lion. Lithe and agile,
the cougar unfailingly moves with grace. Their energy is limited by
lung capacity to brief, forty-mile-an-hour sprints, so the lion must
get to within striking range without startling the prey. A mountain
lion can weigh from 180 to 200 pounds.
